The sex, contamination, year of discovery of HIV positivity, the opportunistic infection prophylaxis and the duration of hospitalisation are not significant. The age, immunodeficiency status, infections during AIDS and cachexy are important elements for the survival (p 0.001). The interest of prophylaxis (against HIV or opportunistic infection) is not clear (p = 0.05). These elements must be considered for the decision of treatment of asymptomatic HIV infected patients.
